Dr. Erin Koballa

Dr. Koballa grew up in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina with her parents and younger sister Kasey. She received her undergraduate degree from Duke University where she majored in psychology with a focus on biology and neuroscience. While at Duke, she was a four-year member and starter on the women’s varsity soccer team. Her team was an NCAA runner-up during her junior year.  She went on to receive her veterinary degree from NC State, where she was heavily involved in the Veterinary Business Management Association (VBMA) as well as the student chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).

Dr. Koballa began her veterinary career at North Mecklenburg Animal Hospital in 2018 before opening her own veterinary practice in Charlotte, NC. Her professional interests include general & minimally invasive surgery, ultrasonography, challenging medical cases, reproductive medicine, and providing excellent, compassionate end-of-life care. She is driven by an enthusiasm for lifelong learning, a desire to approach decision-making with a team-based family-forward mentality, and a passion for providing above-and-beyond veterinary care. This vision is embedded in the roots of Charlotte Companion Animal Hospital.

Outside of her work life, Dr. Koballa enjoys being on the water (salt and freshwater alike!), exploring new places and restaurants, and spending time with family and her Toy Schnauzer, Merlin.

Fear Free Certification image

Fear Free Certified Professional

Dr. Erin Koballa is Fear Free Certified. This unique certification is awarded to veterinary professionals who have completed the Fear Free Veterinary Certification Program. During the program, veterinarians and other professionals are trained to reduce or remove anxiety triggers that could make a pet fearful at the hospital. Additionally, they’re trained to help owners and staff keep pets calm and improve the overall medicine and experience of the pet during their visit. This not only keeps the veterinary team and pet owners safe but also helps to affirm the positive association a pet makes with its care provider. Her Fear Free Certification is one of many ways Dr. Koballa puts your pet first.
